Reviewed: Pacsafe Vibe 22 Commuter Backpack

There is a growing number of men and women cycling to work these days and who wouldn’t, riding a bicycle has been said to reduce stress levels in the workplace. However, one thing that no one wants to stress about is personal security when riding in the city.

More often than not if you’re commuting around town, you’ll have your precious personal possessions either on your body or on your bike. Laptop, keys, purse, phone are just a few of life’s essentials which we can’t bear to be without so it’s important to keep them safe.

Are bicycle locks no longer the anti-theft solution?

Pacsafe specialises in smart travel gear with a heavy focus on security. This Australian brand has become a big name in the US, Germany, and China, renowned for their urban and adventure backpacks. Just one of their many models is the Vibe series which is designed for people on the go who are looking for an extra little bit of security. We’ve been lucky to test one out for ourselves.

So what makes the Pacsafe Vibe backpack so safe? Well, a number of features actually. They include anti-slash canvas, RFIDsafe blocking pockets and material to prevent falling victim from scan scams and locking systems on the bag strap and zips to make this backpack a no-go for opportunistic pickpockets.

The backpack as two spacious compartments with strong locking zips. The larger compartment of the two has an elastic sleeve where you can either insert a hydration bladder or a laptop up to 13″. My laptop is bigger than that, so I just popped mine in the main compartment instead. Inside the smaller compartment is a small zipped mesh pocket, ideal for your phone and purse, and there are a number of smaller organisers for the smaller essentials; key holder, pen holder, shock-absorbing notebook protection.

The fully adjustable straps of the Pacsafe Vibe backpack are comfortably padded whilst remaining breathable and the chest clip keeps everything in place as you ride.

There are side panels on the outside which are made from a stretchy mesh fabric which makes them ideal for storing your water bottle in.

Verdict

There are a few features to the Pacsafe Vibe backpack which I really like and they include the comfortable straps and the ability to get a close and snug fit to my body, the shape of the bag is wide at the bottom and tapers towards the top which I found to best suit my shape and not leave me feeling like a ninja turtle.

The compartments are certainly spacious and I was more than able to get all my bits and bobs in there, however, the zip openings don’t extend the full way around the bag and I found the opening to be quite small and a bit cumbersome when trying to fish out that one thing that has inevitably fallen to the bottom of the pack.
