Human Race, the UK’s largest and most diverse sports events company has revealed that its 2013 Cycletta Series has been the biggest so far and has encouraged almost 3,700 women to get on their bikes this summer.
Cycletta is the UK’s leading series of Women Only bike rides and is partnered with Sky Ride and British Cycling’s Breeze initiative, who all share the goal of getting more women out cycling.
Cycletta Ambassador and Olympic champion, Victoria Pendleton (CBE) has over the years, urged women nationwide to get on their bikes at a Cycletta event and was delighted at these figures,
I am thrilled that 2013 has been the biggest and best year for the Cycletta Series. The future of women’s cycling is very bright and I enjoyed meeting lots of the ladies who took part this year from the nervous first timer to the experienced sportive rider.
In 2012, Cycletta, already motivated thousands of women across the UK to take to their bikes. Building on the success they had over their inaugural year, they hosted more events, in various regional locations across the UK in 2013, including visits to Scotland and Wales for the first time, as well as a new Surrey location.
Responding to demand Cycletta also opened its doors to children for the first time in 2013. Organisers of the Cycletta Series – Human Race – encouraged girls, accompanied by an adult, aged between 12 and 16-years-old to take part. On top of this, at most events, younger boys and girls aged between 4 and 8-years-old could also be entered for a Scootathlon.
The increased numbers in 2013 reflect the success that is being enjoyed by British Cycling who recently revealed that they are on target to get 1 million women cycling by 2012. Pendleton added,
I am delighted to be involved in such a fantastic series and look forward to watching it grow even further in 2014.
