A new women’s sportive is on the calendar for 2017 in the South West, hosted by Gloucestershire based Let’s Go! Events. With a choice of either 28 miles or 50 miles, the Severn Valley Women’s Sportive takes in some of the greatest scenery that this glorious rural county has to offer, followed by a well-deserved cuppa and sweet treats back at the event HQ.
Catherine Dunn, a passionate women’s cycling advocate and Jack Reed, holder of the Strathpuffer 24 hour MTB Pairs title, teamed together to host the inaugural event later this summer. It’s not the first time they’ve organised a sportive, and are putting their expert local knowledge of the Severn Valley to good use. This young and dynamic team have not only recognised the lack of women’s events in the area but refreshingly are doing something about it.
The event HQ is based in Thornbury, a quaint town just outside of Bristol. Both routes head North into the valley, winding through the villages of South Gloucestershire with impressive views of the Severn and even further, Wales. The shorter 28 mile route is perfect for novice riders of those short on time, whilst the 50 mile route will offer more of a challenge as riders will tackle the steep incline of Vicarage Lane Hill; there really is something for everyone.
