I’ve worn the Altura’s Synergy gilet on pretty much all the rides I’ve done since I received it for testing. Depressingly this is partly due to the change of weather from the summer sun to autumn chill but it also reflects how much I like this gilet.
The Synergy Gilet does a simple job well. It gives enough wind and drizzle protection to bridge that gap between a jersey alone and a jacket and has a lovely fit without any baggy bits at the top or bottom. It’s available in sizes 8-18 (I’m a UK size 10 and tested a 10).
Feature-wise the gilet doesn’t offer much. No fancy details, no extravagant materials, no funky colour schemes. In fact, even the product details that Altura offer are rather understated. The price reflects this, at £39.99, it’s at the cheaper end of the scale.
There are a couple of downsides. There’s no pocket on the gilet although it’s easy enough to get your hand into your rear jersey pockets with it on. It’s also only available in black with a small amount of white panelling.
The logos are reflective but I’d rather have something a bit brighter and more reflective for wearing when the nights start to draw in. But for the price, fit and performance I’m happy to put up with all of that!
ProsWell-priced
Windproof
Good fit
ConsOnly in black
No pockets
