First Impressions: Fierlan Jacket, Jersey and Shorts

Stylish royal blue that looks set to perform - but how will it stack up on the road?

Bristol born women’s clothing brand Fierlan came to life when a pair of twenty-two year old’s set out to create a range of cycling kit for women that was flattering, comfortable, and performance minded.

Lucy Gardner and Emily Buzzo launched their debut collection in 2013 and we’ve had the pleasure of reviewing pieces from the range before.

The spring/summer kit is now ready to buy, and we’ve got our hands on a jersey, jacket, and a pair of shorts.

We’ll be testing the kit over some long rides over the weekend, but our first impressions?

Both jersey and shorts have a lovely elegant style about them, and the lovely royal blue colouring really caught our eye.

The jersey retails at £60, and comes in a deep shade of navy, with coral details on the collar and along the inside of the full zip.

Three rear pockets sit along the back, and there is also a small zipped pocket for your valuables.

The waist shorts come in at £70. They sit fairly high – which means you shouldn’t be at risk of flashing any lower back flesh as you ride, and a wide waistband eliminates the likelihood of any uncomfortable chafing.

There’s also a super crafty zipped pocket, on the right thigh – which we’re promised will fit an iPhone 6 – though we’ve yet to try it out whilst pedaling.

The women’s specific pad is designed to be ideal for middle distance rides of 4-5 hours, so we’ll need to let you know after the weekend how it performs!

Quite possibly our favourite piece within the collection, however, is the summer jacket. Typically, it’s also the most expensive piece – at a round £100.

Designed for layering on windy, or even wet days, this jacket provides just a little extra insulation, and could even be your friend in the shoulder seasons of autumn and winter.

It’s got wide cuffs and stretchy side panels, plus some reflective details built into the silky feeling fabric.

At a first glance, we reckon the girls have done good with this set – but of course, the proof is in the ride. We’ll be out testing all three pieces on the roads in the coming week – ready to bring you the full lowdown!
