The DMT Marathon 2.0 Women’s shoes are a robust, highly ventilated pair of mountain bike kicks with standard two bolt cleat mounting and a budget friendly price. Be sure to order a couple of sizes up from your regular size as Marathon 2.0’s come up small.
A bi-component sole makes these shoes a great choice for soft, slippery winter conditions on the trail. The outsole’s rigid construction provides great stiffness for transfer of power and the softer material of the rugged tread provides plenty of grip. Optional mud studs are a nice addition.
The stylish white mesh upper allows your feet to breath, while the three Velcro straps allow for simple adjustment. Personally, I prefer ratchet buckles as they feel more secure and can add stiffness, but I’m not altogether against Velcro in theory. In many shoes it works very nicely.
Sadly, the fit of the Marathon 2.0’s was a bit of a let down. The External Heel Counter is designed to provide a high level of stability for your heel, eliminate shock and provide a secure fit. It certainly felt snug enough, but the rest of the shoe felt rather boxy, even with the straps done up very tightly. In particular, I felt as though support was lacking around the arch of the foot. The shoe’s upper felt rather wide I had to pull the top two straps across very far in an attempt to cinch the sides in.
I have to say that for the money, these would not be my first choice of mountain bike shoes, however, they may work well for people with wide feet and low arches. I really appreciated the chunky sole when out in thick, muddy conditions, but the fit of these shoes just didn’t work for me.
Robustly constructed shoe with well thought out sole, perhaps suited to those with wide feet and low arches.
