Planning a bike holiday for this summer? Here’s a couple of great women-specific options.
Looks like 2013 will be the year of riding with the ladies. Pure Mountains, purveyors of sunny mountain bike holidays in Spain’s Sierra Nevada hosted a modest girls-only week in 2012. It proved such a winner that they’re running two more in 2013.
Aimed at competent women riders who want to hone their skills in the sunshine with some like minded females, the weeks include free yoga sessions and professional guiding. Plus you get the encouragment and support of Pure Mountains mamma Jenny who really knows how to handle a bike.
From £595 with dates in July and September. For more information see Pure Mountains.
For you road riders Velo Vercors have created a week of asphalt joy in one of the most criminally over-looked bike heavens anywhere. Velo Vercors’s Women’s Only Week (aka WOW – love it) runs from 4-11 May from the Velo Vercors base in St Jean-en-Royans.
It’s an area of France which manages to combine spectacular Alpine climbing with surprisingly few many cyclists because most riders are drawn by the bright lights of Alpe d’Huez.
Not really one for beginners, but for women who want to work on their fitness while also quaffing local Cotes du Rhone wine it’s the perfect trip.
Both Teresa and her husband Roger have a huge history in cycling so it’s a great way to kick off the cycling summer. From £650.
