Kirsten Wild (Team Argos-Shimano) of the Netherlands won yesterday’s second stage of the women’s Tour of Qatar in a sprint finish from Trixi Worrack (Specialized-lululemon) of Germany and Elen Van Dijk (Specialized-lululemon) of the Netherlands.
The finale was contested by the eight survivors of a split in the peloton caused by a combination of windy conditions and attacking riding by the Orica-AIS team.
But their effort, coming with a perfect five-woman attack at about the halfway mark of the 96km stage from Camel Race Track to Al Khor Corniche, proved fruitless as they took several of the race’s fastest finishers with them.
