Laura Trott was victorious at the first round of the Matrix Fitness GP series, flying the flag for Matrix Fitness Pro Cycling in their first year as a pro team.
The 45 minute criterium race was fast and furious, consisting of 1.4km laps that featured a climb half way through.
Nearing the end, five riders – Dani King (Wiggle Honda), Katie Archibald (Pearl Izumi), Laura Trott and Elinor Barker (Matrix Fitness Pro Cycling) and Nicole Juniper (Team Giordana Triton) broke away from the pack and gained a 20 second margin, but the peloton bore down on them during the final lap.
Despite the break being caught, National Road Champion Trott was still able to win the sprint, followed by Dani King, and Nicole Juniper in third.
The race series consists of an individual standings competition, and a Team Standings competition, based on the finish time of every rider in the team – and Juniper’s team, Team Giordana Triton, are in the lead following round one.
