Creators of a foldable cycling helmet have managed to raise more than twice their target in an IndieGoGo crowdfunding campaign.
Closca have designed the ‘Closca Fuga’ helmet to be stylish, safe and practical, folding up to a fraction of its size for easy transportation.
The IndieGoGo campaign has now raised $49,490 (£32k) – well over its $20k goal, with another 16 days of the 32 day time limit left to go.
Co-founder Carlos came up with the design when he realised, thanks to his wife, that most helmets on the market didn’t tick the boxes for everyday commuters.
He set about addressing two key issues: “excessive volume”, and a look that was “cut off from personal style.”
He explains: “Wearing a helmet when riding to work through town and not looking like a ‘Tour-de-France’ refugee became our opportunity to create a new product that would transform this safety element into a fashion accessory.”
The helmets exceed current safety standards, and are made using three mobile rings hinged together with two stable positions.
The company have created this great video which shows the helmet in use:
The helmets are currently available in black and white, and are unisex – though more colour options and some accessorised for winter are promised:
The first 100 helmets are on offer for the ‘early bird’ deal if $89 (£58) plus shipping – 90 of those have already gone, and afterwards they will be available for $99 (£64). They will retail at $131 (£85).
Will you be picking up one of these folding beauties, or sticking with your traditional helmet?
