We’ve all been gripped and moved by the heroic story about the Iranian women who ride for their independence. Cycling the war ridden country, these brave women get harassed in the streets, and have even been arrested for simply riding their bike.
We ride our bike for fun and fitness, it’s a means of escape and meditation for so many, but can you imagine being told you’re not allowed to, that it’s against the law? Over the past few months, an army of Iranian women have taken to the streets, and to social media to share their experiences.
The World has rallied behind them, showing support and encouragement. One person in particular is solo World cyclist, Ishbel Taromsari. The British Iranian cyclist has spent the past two years cycling all over the world, and she’s still going.
1000’s of photos shared online by Iranian women on bicycles
Being Iranian herself, she’s been working hard on social media to encourage support for the female bicycle bandits of Iran. By using the new hashtag: #IranianWomenLoveCycling, supporters all over the globe are sharing photos, stories and words of support for the women of Iran.
“I believe with all my heart that every woman in the world has the right to cycle regardless of country or religion.” – Ishbel Taromsari, Solo World Cyclist
