Her father and mentor, Chris Davison, tells us that “the nicest thing to come out of running the event is the amount of friends she has made”. Children are encouraged to get involved with Ruby’s summer challenge where they are able to choose their own miles, and their own charities to raise funds for.
“My favourite things were making lots of new friends who I can ride with. I’ve got lots of friends at school, but they just aren’t into riding like my new friends are.” – Ruby Davison
Along the way, Ruby has gained support from the likes of Rachel Atherton, Manon Carpenter and even took part in a park day with directors Anna and Rowan at Bikepark Wales: “The hardest ride I did was at Bikepark Wales as I had never ridden anything like that before. Anna and Rowan explained to me how the trails were designed to be ridden, and I learnt to let go of the brakes more and trust the trail. It was probably one of my favourite rides of the summer as well”.
Her challenges go beyond the miles and the mud though, Ruby’s Big Bike Challenge encourages children to get on two wheels, make friends and have fun whilst learning valuable MTB skills.
For 2016, Ruby has been supplied with two new steeds to embark on a limitless ride for the summer. She’ll be trying to cover as many miles as possible which will allow her to ride with others, organise more events and get more skills sessions on the go. Her chosen charity for the year is the brilliant Make a Wish Foundation to help support families with children suffering life-threatening conditions.
