After ten months away from racing, Marianne Vos has announced that she will be pinning a number to her Rabo Liv jersey this weekend.
The 12-time World Champion, revered in the past as ‘unbeatable’, has been struggling with injuries since December 2014 – and though she competed a few times in the early months of last year the comeback was short lived and it wasn’t until November 2015 that it was announced she was back in training.
At the time, no date for her return to racing was given – but we now know the event in question will be the Drentse Acht van Westerveld in the Netherlands.
Announcing the return, Vos said: “I’m not going to Drenthe to win. My focus is that I can gain race practice.” She explained that she’s not yet at her best, but that she feels in fine enough form to start – adding: “This return is an important step in building.”
Rabo Liv are listed on the start sheet alongside 31 other teams including Wiggle High5, Boels-Dolmans and Canyon//SRAM Racing – and Vos looks forward to lining up with her team mates again – she said: “I look forward to it and am glad that I can make the connection with the team”, adding “the return in the squad is an important next step in my building.”
At present, this is the only race in Vos’ calendar – following the event, she will see how her body reacts before planning her next steps.
We can’t wait to see how she does – you can follow the race on Twitter here.
*** UPDATE *** Vos had a great race, taking 10th overall – an achievement she and her team were thrilled about. We’re excited to see what’s next!
