Laura Trott Shows Impressive Form at the Revolution Series

Laura Trott dominates Revolution Series, Round 5

For the first time since London 2012, the doors of Lee Valley Velopark were thrown open to world track cycling elites for the Revolution Series Round 5.

Over the course of the weekend it was double Olympian, Laura Trott, who stole the show, completing a clean sweep in the women’s omnium, winning all six races over three sessions.

Speaking before the race, Trott was relaxed and seemed happy to be back on home turf:

“It’s great to be back on the London track. Usually I hate racing after the World Championships as it just stops dead; I’ve had 10 days off and only ridden my bike twice since so it’s a big break. After the World Championships there is no pressure. Normally there are so many things to remember and so many tactics but now I can enjoy it more.”

It seems her relaxed approach paid off. Trott’s domination of the omnium began on Friday evening and continued for the course of the weekend, adding to the electric atmosphere within the venue. The excitement of the crowd saw her over the line time and time again and reached a deafening crescendo as she confidently won the 40-lap scratch race ahead of the 500m time trial.

Also in attendance were Trott’s Wiggle Honda teammates, Dani King and Elinor Barker who helped her pave her way to gold in the Flying Lap, the Points Race and the Elimination Race in a truly dominant style.

The future for British cycling also showed promise as Grace Garner and Joe Holt won the HOY Future Stars in front of Sir Chris himself. Sophie Capewell and Grace Garner continued neck and neck throughout the evening, both dominating the lap dash and the scratch race. The decider came down to the final event – the 5km points race. In yet another nail biting affair, Garner edged her way to the top of the standings.

The Revolution Series coincided with the opening of the Lee Valley venue to the public.
