One For the Girls: Evans to Host Series of Women’s Evenings

A women's only session hosted by Evans Cycles

Evans Cycles is holding its largest series of women’s events yet and every event will feature a cycling coach or industry expert on hand to answer questions.

The retailer, who won Total Women’s Cycling’s “Best Retail Chain” award last year hosted two sets of events in 2013, and the One for the Girls nights are back by popular demand.

The events will be all about advice and information, but of course there will be nibbles, sparkling wine, goody bags for the first 50 women at each event, and some exclusive discounts too.

Evans Cycles tell us they are passionate about supporting female cyclists, and when asked about the motivation behind the events, said: “We’re seeing sales of women’s bikes increasing dramatically, and we want to support new and existing female cyclists.”

The series, which begins on Monday with an evening at the West End Moritmer Store, will tour the country for two weeks.

Each of the 10 events will open with a talk given by an Evans Cycles female colleague about choosing clothing for spring and summer riding. Following this, there will be a talk from a coach or industry expert, then another talk given by a mechanic.  After the mini seminars, each expert will be in the store all evening to answer questions.

Evans told us: “We learned from previous events that the women attending will vary dramatically – from very experienced, to brand new. Therefore, at these events the talks will be short, and then we’ll position the experts around the store, and they will hold Q+A sessions – giving everyone the opportunity to get their question in and get the right answer for them.”

The full list of experts can be found on the One for the Girls page. Evans Cycles has worked hard to bring together a host of individuals who are passionate about promoting women’s cycling – these include:

  • Kerry Bircher, head coach at Revolution Cycling. Kerry set up the coaching company to provide cycle training specifically for women of all levels – she will be speaking at 5 of the 10 events.
  • Maddie Horton from Fully Sussed – she’s not only a National XC champ, but also a BC level 2 coach at Fully Sussed – and she’s organising a women’s MTB weekend.
  • Chris Garrison – she’s been in the industry for a decade and knows an awful lot about bike fit, and loves teaching women to better understand their bikes. Chris gave some great talks at Trek stores last year, and is known for mixing humour with insight.
  •  Caz Nicklin, author of The Girls’ Bicycle Handbook, is the blogger behind londoncyclechic.blogspot.com – she is passionate about championing cycling as a desirable lifestyle choice.
  • Mercury Performance Coaching head coach, Terry Bell. Terry isn’t a woman, but he does coach Lynn Hamel, who was National Hill Climb champion 4 years running.

Spaces are limited, so sign up soon to secure your place.

In addition to this Evans is offering 20% off clothing and accessories and 10% off bikes at the events.
