Joanna Rowsell is a cyclist on the Great Britain Cycling Team. She competed at the London 2012 Olympics where she won Gold in the Women’s Team Pursuit. She is currently the National, European and World Champion, and also the World record holder for this event.
We were lucky enough to catch up with Joanna and find out what makes her tick!
If you weren’t a cyclist what would you be doing?
I wanted to go to university to study natural sciences. I don’t know what I would have done with that but natural sciences is what I always wanted to do.
Describe yourself in three words.
I hate these things, it’s really difficult! Em…determined, quirky and chocoholic.
Do you have any hidden talents?
Em… I don’t think so, cycling is pretty much the extent of it.
If you could have a cup of tea with anybody, dead or alive, who would it be?
It is a difficult one. The Spice Girls!
What has been your most embarrassing moment so far?
I probably try and block it out! All I can think of now is at school we had a hockey match one and there was no goal keeper in the goal and I missed the goal. I was shooting for the goal and I looked up because we just had cones as the goal post. I saw on cone and thought it was the left hand post and hit the ball. Everybody was like: “How did you miss that Jo?”
Or actually possibly the crash I had in Newport that time (the first time Joanna went on the track with British Cycling she fell off the bike from the stationary position). Ye I think that is higher
Are you a dog or a cat person?
Cat definitely, I really want a cat!
What is your favourite movie?
Date Night, it is really funny
If you could change one thing about the world what would it be?
I would eliminate hunger, give some of our food to the poor people.
