Reviewed: Pactimo’s Apex MTB Collection

We put some trail miles into Pactimo's Apex mountain bike range

Pactimo is commonly associated with road cycling. They produce fantastic jerseys and bib-shorts, so much so that we even had our own TWC kit printed by them. However, there’s a lot more to this brand than meets the road cycling eye. Pactimo’s Apex kit makes up their women’s mountain bike range and here’s how we got on with it.

Available in cherry red, black and purple the Apex collection features a simplistic high-performance set comprising of a jersey and semi-fitting shorts. We managed to get out and hit the trails and set them ablaze in the bright red ensamble.

Pactimo’s Apex jersey is constructed from BreathLITE fabric which is light to wear, breathable and has the ability to transfer moisture away from the skin, even when wearing a hydration pack. This fabric has been coupled with a snag-resistance property to help improve the life-span of the jersey even after the most gnarly of rides.

The cuffs, neckline and hem are soft to the skin without causing any irritation after long days in the saddle. Whilst the jersey is loose fitting, it has a lovely tapered cut at the same time making it still feel quite feminine.

The flat colour of the jersey and subtle stripe detail means this top is perfect for mix’n’matching, something I love to do when weather changes unfavourably or if I fancy changing things up a little.

Colours: Purple, Red and Silver
Sizes: X.Small to X.Large

To compliment and complete the Apex look are the shorts. Pactimo’s Apex shorts are available in flat black or flat red – again, making them versatile enough to wear with whatever you fancy.

One of the first things to note when handling the Apex shorts is just how light and stretchy the material is. Pactimo describes these shorts as being “designed with performance-driven minimalism in mind”, which is certainly felt in the 4-way stretch fabric. Both breathable and fitting, these shorts are built to move with you as you ride without hindering your mountain bike body shapes.

Zipped pockets are perfect for storing your trail essentials and their location doesn’t interfere with your pedalling power either.

Double popper and zip closure keeps the shorts firmly in place and both easy to use with gloves on, just in case you get a mid-ride call of nature.

The rear of the shorts comes up fairly high on the back which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The extra material on the rear provides coverage to prevent drafts and skin exposure when you’re really throwing it behind the saddle.

While I loved the stretchiness and lightweight feel of the shorts, I feel these qualities came at the cost of how thin that fabric is. Perhaps this may not be so noticeable on the black shorts, but with the red colour, I could definitly see-through the material to my body art beneath. For this reason, I would be aware of what (if any) chamois shorts you choose to wear underneath.

Colours: Black or Red
Sizes: X.Small – XX.Large

Pactimo’s Apex MTB shorts for women are available here for £75.

It’s summery, lightweight and super breathable to wear. If you’re looking for some casual kit to see you around the trails and remain comfortable enough to enjoy your post-ride cuppa, than the new Apex collection from Pactimo is ideal.
