Reviewed: DMR Vault Midi Flat MTB Pedals

Smaller, lighter, slimmer... but are they better?

Mountain biking can be a hair-raising sport which is why there’s a great importance in keeping your feet on the pedals.

Whether you run flats or SPD’s, having a great shoe and pedal set up is vital for a comfortable and controlled ride. Flat pedals still largely dominate the MTB scene, it’s usually what we all start out on with some converting to SPD’s at a later time.

How to choose the right MTB shoe for you

British manufacturer, DMR Bikes, are famous for their flat pedals technology. With a number of models and variations in the range, the Vaults have been their most successful to date.  So when DMR Bikes launched the Vault Midi, we knew we had to sink our feet into them.

DMR Vaults Midi

The DMR Vault Midi is simply a scaled-down version of its big brother. It’s 10% smaller but still retains the award-winning characteristics of the original Vault.

Constructed from extruded 6061 Aluminium and 4140 Cro-mo Steel axles (9/16″), the platform of the Vault Midi is 95mm x 104mm which is great if you have smaller feet or if you just prefer a smaller platform.

With 11 aluminium pins on each side, you can finely tune the feel by taking some out, flipping them the other way or even swapping out for longer pins.

The profile of the DMR Vault Midi’s is a slim 17mm and with its concave design, you can really feel your feet firmly plant themselves within the nested shape.

DMR Vault Midi: Verdict

Having spent many miles on these babies, I can safely say they fit and grip like no other. I’m a size EU 40 in shoes and while I’ve ridden on larger platforms, the Vault Midi pedals just felt so right.

The concave shape cradled my foot comfortably and the pins gripped firmly into a number of my flat pedal shoes… and my shin – ouch.

DMR’s flat pedals are well known for their high-quality sealed bush are cartridge bearings which not only makes them easily serviceable but they last as well.
