Zimtstern are an independent Swiss brand, already well known in the world of snowsports for producing striking and fun technical kit. We were excited to find that they also do a women’s cycling range.
With the focus definitely on the MTB side of things, the first thing that stands out are the bright colours that zimtstern kit comes in, with strong graphics that are about a million miles away from floral or pastel.
On the downside, Zimtstern is tricky to find on sale in the UK, which is a shame because the range looks amazing! You can however order kit direct from Zimtstern themselves and have it shipped over, and of course a search online will bring up a few retailers.
We’ve got in a selection of items from their 2014 Women’s MTB range to have a closer look at, and here are our first impressions.

- The fabric is loose and light, so should be good for keeping you cool when riding in the spring, summer and early autumn.
- If you like your clothing bright and distinctive, it looks like you’re on to a winner with Zimtstern! The loud purple and yellow is eye catching to say the least.

Zimtstern Loft MTB Shorts
- Made from a tough and rugged (but surprisingly soft to touch) cordura material, these shorts should be able to resist whatever the trail throws at you.
- Although the material itself isn’t stretchy, a stretch panel at the rear of the shorts should give you freedom of movement when riding.
- There are pockets galore! Two large one on each side, which means plenty of room for your jelly baby stash.
- To keep your legs and nether regions cool when riding in the heat there are vents located on the front and back.

Zimtstern Missa Padded Liner Short
- A lightweight padded liner short that’s designed to be worn under your MTB shorts, this will provide some welcome cushioning while you ride.
- The mesh panels front and back should allow plenty of cooling airflow, which is great news if you’re riding in the summer. They also make these a little see-through, so these are definitely just for under your shorts!
- Anti-slip tape on the hems should help keep these in place while you ride.
