The clearest message is that bike fit is individual. What works for one woman will be very different to what works for another woman. To find the right bike, you need to test ride.
Some brands may be using data from bike fits to fine tune their frames – and it’s worth testing those bikes to see if they suit you. However, shopping with an eye on women’s specific bikes alone will limit your choices.
Most women will need a female specific handlebar, saddle, and perhaps cranks. If the bike you want has these fitted as standard – that’s good news and won’t cost you a penny. In an ideal cycling world, rider-optimised components would be available with all bikes, but if that’s not the case on your otherwise dream companion, it’s easy to change them.
