Give your bike a spooky edge this Halloween with our Cycle Style special!
If, like Total Women’s Cycling deputy editor Aoife, you like cycling and skulls then we’ve got some trick’r’treats in store for you.
1. Light up the night
Dark and blustery evenings add to the excitement of Halloween, and just because lights are practical, safe and a legal requirement, doesn’t mean they can’t be fun! There were so many cute skull lights to choose from, we had a hard time selecting only three.
c. Crazy Stuff Front Light, £6.82, available from Tesco
2. Dia de los Muertos cycling jersey
We searched the globe to find a perfect jersey for riding into work on Halloween, or heading into the dark woods for a witching hour night ride. Of course, you don’t need to save for just once a year.
Made by US company Bicidichi, you’ll need to get this one shipped over from the States if you fancy it. We love the fact it would match the bike and socks on the list!
Dia de los Muertos Jersey, available from Bicidichi.
Price: $75 (approx. £46.50, plus postage)
Sizes: S (chest 35, waist 31), M (chest 37, waist 33), L (chest 39, waist 35), XL (chest 41, waist 37) – measurements in inches.
Available from: Bicidichi in the US
3. Protect your skull
Keep your cranium intact with a stylish helmet offering from Bell helmets, featuring a Scurvy Skull design from Paul Frank. We’ve cheated here a little, as this is actually at 2012 design, but handily it’s still available in a few places, and it’ll be on sale!
4. Skeletal digits
Keep your hands warm, visible and ghostly with these winter gloves from Northwave. Made from a windproof material with gel padding on the palm, the Skeleton W-Gel gloves have all the features you need to perform effectively on cold, dark nights.
The skeleton print on the back of the glove comes in either ghoulish white or high-vis yellow, and the print on the palm is a grippy silicone.
Indicating will never be the same.
5. Cruising the night
What better way to flit through the darkness than on this beautiful creation? Featuring a mexican sugar skull print all over the frame and mudguards, bright green wheel rims, black handlebar streamers and a matching bell – whats not to love!
Electra also produce a range co-ordinating bike accessories, from flowers to baskets to bags, so you can accessorise your skull-tastic steed to your hearts content.
6. Tip toe through the night
When you’re rustling through the piles of autumn leaves in the murky gloom next Thursday, make sure your feet stay snug and warm. Sockguy, producer of socks in a veritable rainbow of colours and designs, have a cute sugar skull sock design that’ll perfectly complement the Electra bike. And the Bell helmet. And the Northwave gloves. Basically, we want it all!
