If you want to wear stylish clothing off the bike, and then jump on and ride away whilst staying safe and comfortable, you wouldn’t be in the minority. Many cyclists are looking for stylish solutions they can wear on and off the bike – and ‘Glow and See’ are a new option on the market designed to meet those needs.
Created by self-proclaimed fashion conscious cyclist Comet Chukura, the range includes gloves and snoods that “promote safety without the naff” (her words, not ours!).
The knitwear is crocheted using wool that features 15 per cent glassfibre, which is light reflective. The result is a garment that looks ‘normal’ off the bike, but stands out when car headlights catch the material.
Chukura told as: “I developed the range to meet the needs of cyclists like me who do not believe in Lycra but have the desire to be safe and seen without a style compromise, and so GLOW was born.”
It was important to Chukura that the items she offered were ethically produced too – and each item is hand crocheted by vulnerable women in East London. The designer said: “[Producing the items provides] them with a source of income that fits around their lives without imposing rules and boundaries that people in such positions often can not stick to. We empower them, and as they take part in the process they also come to life, growing and becoming a bigger part of community.”
The range includes short fingerless gloves at £20, long 10 inch fingerless gloves that cover more of your arm for £30, neck cuffs for £49 and two styles of snood for £69. Colours include grey, navy, white, yellow, blue and pink.
