Review: Velocity Women’s Cycling Jacket

By Em Knight.

If you want to look great both riding to work or on the job then this is the jacket for you!

Designed and manufactured in London, Velocity make urban cycle wear specifically for women. Creating stylish yet functional clothing to wear on and off the bike.

The size is accurate, good body length and slightly longer arms to accommodate your cycling position. The jacket features a a draw cord around the base of the jacket to allow you to pull it in tighter, for a more snug fit.

There is sufficient room to fit various layers underneath the Velocity Women’s Cycling Jacket depending on how cold it happens to be, however the softshell material is windproof and highly water resistant so a baselayer is usually enough.

The underarm eyelets designed for ventilation ensured plenty of breathability  on warmer rides. The sleeve cuffs are elasticated making them very comfortable and easy to pull up towards the elbow if you get too warm.

The Velocity Women’s Cycling Jacket is incredibly comfortable to wear. I have been wearing it regularly whilst commuting for the last couple of weeks in all types of weather. It is highly water and wind resistant but will generally keep out the heaviest of showers. Warmer weather is no problem either, with plenty of ventilation and breathability meant for a comfy commute.

Recently I chose to wear the jacket whilst out mountain biking in the Lake District and the material is very hard wearing and washed very well after becoming muddy.

I have also worn the jacket whilst walking the dog and causally whilst shopping and is certainly did not disappoint. The Velocity Women’s Cycling Jacket boasts various pockets, including a chest pocket, hand warmer pockets and rear pockets. All being very useful both on and off the bike.

I have worn the jacket with and without a rucksack and it always stays where it should, where other jackets ride up or move around.

There is the option to buy the jacket with a hood (I didn’t have the hood to test)  – possibly more useful when wearing it off the bike.

Hi-viz reflective pipping on various parts of the jacket help to make it more visible, twinned with a light loop for darker nights the jacket is also made in blue which would stand out a little more when riding on the road.

Verdict: A fantastic multi use jacket, stylish for casual wear but also functional with features usually found in more technical clothing and for a competetive price.
