Pricier than some jerseys but thanks to its cut and material, it’s also better than most.
For something a little different to the usual polyester jerseys, look no further than Vulpine’s long sleeve merino Alpine jersey. It’s a beautiful piece of cycling attire, and one I now I’m going to keep coming back to time and again.
Made from the wonder-fabric merino, the Alpine jersey packs in all the usual Vulpine styling and thoughtfulness – to such an extent that I’ve found myself pulling this on even when I’m not on my bike. It’s just an extremely comfortable top to hang out in.
Vulpine uses a fine 180g Tasmanian merino wool in the Alpine long sleeve jersey, and it does a brilliant job of keeping on top of your temperature – wicking away sweat and staying breathable when it’s warm, protecting you with a cosy layer when it’s chillier. But of course the best thing about merino is it’s ability to remain smell-free, thanks to its anti-bacterial qualities, and the Alpine lasts for days before it needs a wash.
Styling details include a full-length zip in contrasting purple that docks in a protective cover so it won’t rub on your chin, three rear pockets – two are angled so they’re easier to access, the middle one is zipped for valuables – and flatlock stitching throughout to prevent rubbing.
The fit is relaxed and by its very nature, the merino is stretchy – hence the pockets shouldn’t be overloaded as they’ll go baggy, and the Alpine is finished off with subtle embroidered Vulpine logos, silicon grip tape on the longer length back, and care instructions printed inside rather than being on a potentially scratchy label. It’s available in black or red.
All in, this jersey is fantastically well thought, a joy to wear and worth the big price tag – for the amount of comfortable miles I’ll be doing in this, I’m more than happy to make this investment.
VerdictA great quality merino jersey full of features and style, I’m looking forward to getting years of wear out of it.
