A jacket that is so High-viz, you might need sunglasses!
The Proviz nightrider jacket is one of the highest visibility jackets I have ever used. It is reflective almost everywhere. Providing this much visibility is great for anyone riding at night or at dusk.
The main aspect of the jacket is to be seen on the road and it does exactly that. It has long, wide strips on each arm, on the shoulders and huge underarm reflective panels. The biggest benefit of the arm strips is that when you indicate, cars behind you can definitely see you. Between that, the reflective writing on the rear, and the reflective triangle on the back, you have virtually 360 degree visibility.
The jacket feels well made and quite heavy. Its weight is deceptive though as once on and cycling, you barely even notice. As it is spring, I did find it quite warm to wear. Proviz have tackled this issue well by putting large zips in the side panels to allow for greater ventilation. I feel the weight of it and the fleece-lined collar make it the perfect autumn/spring jacket.
I received a size 12 jacket, which is my top size. I found the jacket really on the large side. I would have no trouble layering up underneath this in winter. If you like a slim fitting jacket, this probably isn’t for you, it’s built for safety over speed.
The jacket doesn’t have a tailored fit to it, its pretty straight up and down. This doesn’t bother me, but it’s a styling choice that some prefer. It does have a slight drop tail at the rear so you do have a bit of coverage, but if you bent to far forward you could end up exposed. Due to it being a little on the large side it was prone to bunching up when on the bike, another reason to probably size down.
Storage in the jacket is decent, with one large pocket in the rear. It also has an internal side pocket for your phone etc. There are no side pockets in this jacket which would have been an added bonus.
The back of the jacket has a removable reflective triangle. This triangle is very good at making you be seen in the dark. You can buy other Triviz compatible triangles to put on instead, including a light pack which boosts visibility.
I have ridden in the rain in this jacket (it’s rained a lot recently) and I have to say it does keep me dry. It boasts a Stromproof zip, and whilst there was no storm, it certainly didn’t let the rain in. It did get a bit hot and sweaty after a while, but you just unzip the pits and let some air in and you are sorted. The cuffs are adjustable by means of velcro, so are fast and easy on the move.
What Proviz say about the Women’s Nightrider Jacket
The PROVIZ Nightrider jackets are designed to make you stand out as much as possible on the roads 24 hours a day. The jackets have been designed to include the most amount of reflective panelling you will find on any cycling jacket on the market to give you 360 degree visibility.
The jacket is compatible with our unique USB rechargeable TRIVIZ light pack that is attachable/detachable in seconds. Simply remove the reflective booster triangle and replace it with the TRIVIZ to ensure you are highly visible above the sea of red and white lights on the roads. (TRIVIZ Light Pack not included).
Very high visibility
On the large side, you may want to size down.
Proviz have made a pretty decent commuter jacket here. I think it is perfectly suitable for short distances and commutes because its design isn’t really for longer distances. It is waterproof and really is high visibility, which is great for traffic.
