Just the thing for early-morning rides this time of year.
The Primal Release Long Sleeved Heavyweight Jersey is a really useful addition to any cyclists wardrobe – it’s just the thing for this time of year when the weather is uncertain and it’s probably colder than it looks outside.
The Release is made from a thermal brushed-back breathable fabric, which Primal brand as Sfero. Sfero is 100% polyester, and while the Release jersey doesn’t claim to be windproof or waterproof, Primal says it’ll keep you warm in temperatures ranging from 7ºC to 23ºC. And as a bonus, the Release kept light showers and drizzle at bay.
While Primal doesn’t claim the Release to be windproof, it does a fairly good job at going some way to being so, and if you wear a pair of armwarmers underneath it with a jersey, it feels plenty cosy enough. I’m yet to wear it in anything approaching 23ºC, but so far have been pleased with its breathability when working hard.
The fit runs true to size and it has a two-way stretch for a bit of give. With a full length zip, the Release doesn’t shift about much – grippy elastic at the waist and cuffs keeps things in place, and prevent the three sizeable rear pockets from wobbling about.
The material has a nice cross-hatched detail to it that gives it a subtle sheen without being shiny. It feels very hardwearing and even taking a tumble in the Release hasn’t damaged the material.
Verdict
Primal’s Release will keep the uncertainties of spring and autumn at bay – just the thing for making sure there are no excuses for ducking out of training rides!

– Breathable brushed back fabric
– More windproof and waterproof than manufacturer claims
