How to: Wrap Bar Tape

Jenni from the London Bike Kitchen presents our bike maintenance series in association with Juice Lubes, with this next video instalment showing you how to wrap bar tape around your handlebars.

Putting on new bar tape is like giving your bike a haircut – it can update its looks, make it a bit more stylish, while also providing the essential requirement of grip.

To change your bar tape you will need:

–        scissors

–        electrical tape

–        bar tape

–        bar ends

Figure of 8

If you want to try something more advanced, instead of using the two small bits of tape to hide the shame of the metal clamps that hold your brakes, you can do what’s called the Figure of 8 method.

For this, when you reach the bottom of your brakes, wrap the tape around the bottom, leaving a small gap (not right up against the brakes). Then bring the tape up and over the top bit of the bars, back down and around the bottom, hiding that initial gap. Then bring the tape up again, but this time under the bar, then over the top. Continue as before.
