A lightweight but effective winter glove that’s ideal for commuter riding on cooler days.
The Madison Element Women’s Thermal Gloves are lightweight comfortable gloves, that are ergonomic, wind-proof and allow you to use a touch screen phone without taking them off.
‘Medium’ was a touch large for me, but would be ideal if you wanted to pair them with silk liners. They are ideal for everyday cycling and commuting, but might not offer enough padding for sportives or really long rides, as there is little or no in-built padding. That said, they give nice close contact on the bars and the silicone grippers are nice and sticky on the brake levers.
The stretchy, fleece-lined material is snug, as well as making the gloves easy to take on and off, and the fabric’s breathable too — so even on more energetic rides, my hands didn’t get sweaty. The elasticated wristband also keeps out drafts, without being tight or making the gloves difficult to remove. On really cold days, a bit more insulation wouldn’t go amiss. I liked the styling of the gloves — subtle and discrete — but with enough reflective trim to make them stand out on the roads. They seem to be well made — but only time will tell.
Verdict: a good-value, warm and comfortable general purpose glove for those who like close contact on the bars.
