It’s springtime, which means as well as the days starting to get longer, it’s time for the big cycling brands and distributors to unveil their new products for the year ahead.
So on a misty London morning, we moseyed along to the Zyro Cycle Vision trade show to see what brands like Altura, Torq and ABUS have in store for 2014.
Zyro are one of the big distribution companies in the UK, managing some of the most popular and well-recognised cycling brands. This show is the chance for them to showcase new products to retailers, press, and also to you!
We chatted to Hamax, Torq, Etxeondo, ABUS and Altura to find out the new gear, new products, and even the new flavours that will be gracing the racks of a bike shop near you soon.
Our focus here is Altura, but don’t forget to check out our other updates.
Altura women’s clothing
They may be well known for their value for money cycling gear and brilliantly bright Night Vision range, but they’ve got a lot more to offer, and we’re excited about some of the new products for 2014.
First up is the addition of ProGel bib shorts to their performance range. Our initial impression is good, and priced in the region of £60 looks to be excellent value for money. There’ll also be bib tights coming out for autumn/winter.
The Night Vision range gets a revamp, with more options for those who like lots of reflectives, but aren’t so keen on neon yellow.
A vibrant blue Night Vision jacket really caught our eye, and there’s also a pink-and-black colour way coming out. Both of these include integrated lights on the rear of the jacket for extra visibility on the roads.
Altura luggage and bags
Commuters are really well catered for, with a new range of luggage that converts from rucksack to pannier bag. Previous attempts at this kind of thing have ended up compromising functionality and comfort, but it looks like Altura have nailed it.
A fabric flap can be easily switched from the pannier side to the rucksack side to cover whichever isn’t in use, and it comes with a waterproof hi-vis cover to keep your bits and pieces dry.
Another rucksack designed with the commuter in mind was also on show, and Altura have really thought about the features that are important. It features a suspended laptop pocket, which means your precious cargo is protected if you drop the bag.
There are various other pockets for pumps and tools, plus a secure way to keep your helmet attached and out of the way.
