Strongher MTB Ride with Manon Carpenter

Manon took to the trails at FoD, with female riders nipping at her heels

Strongher’s ambassador and downhill World Champion, Manon Carpenter, stormed the trails at the Forest of Dean this weekend, closely followed by 20 female shredders.

In October 2015, professional cyclist, Marianne Vos, founded a women’s riding program called Strongher. With an army of professional and non-professional cycling ambassadors, Stronger’s aim is to support and encourage women to ride: any discipline, any age and any skill level.

One of Strongher’s missions is to organise rides throughout the year with their ambassadors. This weekend saw the Strongher MTB day with Manon Carpenter which was held at the Forest of Dean. After an overwhelming 145 women registered for the event, roughly 25 made it to the Pedalabikeaway centre on the drizzly Saturday morning.

The group of eager women gathered outside of the centre for introductions which were lead by Strongher’s organiser, Marit Huisman. With the bikes checked over, the women began the day by ripping up the Vereder’s blue trail. Shortly after setting off, the rain began to descend, but that didn’t dampen the fun or mood of these trail shredding women.

After a quick pit stop at the centre, the girls headed back out to session some drops on the red Freeminer’s trail. Manon offered constructive coaching in the skills area, along with practical demonstrations for the girls to perfect their technique and learn from the World Champion.

With the rain still coming down, the women rejoined at the Pedalabikeaway centre for some much needed refuelling, where Manon chatted with riders, and shared some of her riding expertise.

In the afternoon, riders could choose whether they wanted to tackle some of the famous downhill tracks that FoD has to offer, or head back to the trail routes for some more XC thrills.

Days like these are brilliant for binging women together, making friends and riding with professional athletes. They are fun and sociable, and a great way to observe other’s riding styles, and pick up a thing or two for yourself.

Strongher have planned to host more women’s only events throughout the year with its ambassadors. For more information, and event updates, follow them on Facebook.
