Rachel Atherton continued her storm on the UCI Mountain Bike Downhill World Cup with a win at the fourth round in Lenzerheide, Switzerland.

After three consecutive wins, the 27-year-old now sits in the lead on the overall standings, ahead of Emmeline Ragot (France).

Ragot was leading at the first time split, and was also fastest in qualifying. However, in the second half she overcooked a jump, landing heavily on her front wheel, and only just holding onto the bike. She managed to maintain fifth place, nearly ten seconds down on Atherton’s time of 3 minutes 28 seconds.

Surprised by the result, GT Factory Racing’s Atheron said: “I don’t think I would’ve taken the win today if Emmeline hadn’t crashed, it’s a pretty wild track and it’s so dry. Us British girls aren’t used to riding in the dry! I’m glad I didn’t give up and persevered to the end.”

Manon Carpenter managed to defy her bad luck at the previous two rounds to come second, five seconds down on the leader, whilst Katy Curd finished in seventh.

Round five of the seven event series takes place on 1 August in Canada.
