Round four of the series was held in Rhyd-y-Felin and the 27-year-old World Cup leader was more than 13 seconds ahead of 2014 World Champ Manon Carpenter (Madison Saracen Factory Racing).

Completing the podium was Tahnee Seagrave (FMD Racing) who was a further two seconds behind.

Atherton won both the first and second round, only missing out in round three. She’s also won the last two World Cup rounds in Fort William and Austria.

She said following the race: “[It was the] best British downhill race I’ve been to for AGES… Amazing Uplift, Rad track, half beautiful weather! [It] reminded me why I race.”

The next British National race will take place in Moelfire, Wales, on July 11 and 12, but before that the trio will take to the track in Lenzerheide, Switzerland, for the Downhill World Cup round four on 4 and 5 July.

British Downhill Series, Round Four results:
