Quick releases work in much the same way, wherever they’re located on your bike. Most typically, the quick release will be a part of the skewer on your wheel, and are a convenient way to get your wheels in and out.
It’s really important to make sure they’re in correctly though, as it can be quite unsafe to have them improperly put in.
