On a budget? Fear not, we have rounded up some fantastic gear that won't break the bank

We’ve gone and tested the cheapest cycling clothing we could find in the shops, check out the results here: The Cheapest Cycling Clothing: To the Test

In a perfect world we would have buckets of cash to fund our cycling addictions. But in reality, most of us don’t. And cycling clothing can be really expensive. Of course some items are worth the investment but there are cheaper alternatives out there that will do the job. So if you are on a tight budget, fear not, we have put together this comprehensive guide on the best cheap cycling clothing on the market.

Cheap Cycling Jerseys

Cycling jerseys vary hugely in price. Wiggle for example offers the dhb Mono jersey for just £9.75 at the very lowest end and a jersey from Assos which costs £122. A big difference. But does that price justify a relative difference in quality.

It is likely that the jersey at the very end of the market will not be the most comfortable, be the most breathable or be very hard wearing. You will pay a premium for top brands so the trick is to opt for a jersey that performs really well, is a good fit but offers good value for money. If you are unsure of what to look out for, then why not check out our comprehensive guide to buying a cycling jersey.

We have also gathered the best value cycling jerseys out there to make your search a little bit easier.

Cheap Cycling Shorts

This is one area where we do advise spending a little bit more. Cycling shorts will literally make or break your ride. First up, you need to decide if you are a shorts or bib shorts kinda gal. Confused? Why not check out our article on the joys and pitfalls of bib shorts, it might help you to make up your mind!

If you are unsure about what else to look out for when buying cycling shorts, then hopefully our buyer’s guide to cycling shorts will help you out.

We have also put together a list of the best value cycling shorts on the market.

Cheap Cycling Accessories

This is one area that you can really save money. Would you believe that I still ride with a pair of cycling gloves that I bought in Lidl four years ago that cost me £2.50? I probably shouldn’t admit to this but they are still my all time favourites! There are so many handy cheap bike accessories for under £10, you just need to know where to look and what to buy. You can even get your hands on some cheap bike lights, again it’s all about knowing where and what to buy!

Cheap Bicycles

Don’t buy a bike based on it’s price tag. As we found out first hand there is often a reason why a bike is uber cheap – it will either not last the test of time or will be so uncomfortable you will never want to ride it.

Buying a second hand bike is a great way of getting great value for money. But you should be cautious as sites like Gumtree and eBay are often used to offload stolen bikes. Be sure to check out this information on how to avoid buying a stolen bike.

There are a whole host of places out there where you can purchase a cheap bike, perfect for its end use.
