This is a really attractive top with lots of ‘buy me’ appeal. Wear it though, and you soon realise that there’s much more going on than good looks.
The Shutt Velo Rapide Women’s Signature Jersey is made from a trademarked fabric called MerinoPerform (60% polyester, 40% merino) and as a result is supersoft and very comfortable to ride in during the warmer months. Its designed to be high wicking and fast drying, all of which helps keep your temperature stable no matter how hard you pedal, or how many chilly headwinds you meet.
The fabric isn’t as fine and silky as some other high-end ‘second skin’ sports fabrics. This is something of a plus point if you’re not a whippet-thin, ultra toned athlete (ie most of us) as it allows the top to skim over your figure rather than clinging to every ounce of excess body fat. It’s also opaque (despite being white) so you don’t have to stress about finding the right colour sports bra to wear with it.
The sizing is really generous. I’m 5’9” tall and a size 10 and the top I tried is a size small. It fitted really well and was more than long enough to cover my back in a riding position (in fact, if you’re on the short side it may be a bit too long!). Another note on sizing – this top is available in sizes up to XL.
The Shutt Velo Rapide Women’s Signature Jersey features a full-length zip (always more practical than a short one, I find) with a ‘zip garage’ (a little fabric pocket) to prevent chafing on your neck. There are three very roomy pockets at the back plus a zip up and waterproof (no more damp phone issues!) pocket for valuables.
There’s also a reflective trim on the hem though I’d say that the thing that makes this top most visible is the fact that it is white.
Pros: Really comfortable, great fit if you’re tall, very practical.
Cons: Might be a bit too long if you’re on the short side.
Price: £99 from Shutt Velo Rapide.
