The 9th annual Brompton World Championship will return to the historic Goodwood Motor Circuit, South West England on 27 July 2014 and boy does it promise to be an event to remember.
The backbone of the Brompton Cycling festival will be the Brompton Treble of events, which will consist of the famous Brompton World Championship, the fast paced Brompton Sprint* and a non-competitive 26km Brompton Meander. Those hardy enough to compete in all three Brompton events will be going head to head for the title of Treble Champion.
The Brompton World Championship – a mad dash to unfold bikes, followed by a 15km race around the Goodwood track on Brompton bicycles, spurred on by the crowd’s roar on the grandstand – is hugely popular and will see upwards of 700 riders at the starting line this year.
If you are looking for something a little more sedate then the Meander may be more your thing. Bromptoneers will tour through the picturesque countryside of West Sussex, with the opportunity to sample the wares of local producers along the way.
The rest of the Festival will provide fun for all the family, offering a bike expo, event fair, picnic area and kid’s activities throughout the day. You can browse the stalls for top notch cycling accessories, take a spin around Goodwood during the family rides or enjoy a Sipsmith cocktail on the grass whilst watching the day’s events (and bikes) unfold. There will be BMX displays, mini competitions and an ICE Trikes recumbent test track, all free of charge for the adventurous.
“This event is of paramount importance to us at Brompton, it is our biggest opportunity to give something back to the Brompton community and meet the people from all over the world who ride our bikes. Racing on a new track last year was exhilarating, and I think I speak for a lot of Brompton owners when I say I’m looking forward to beating my time this year,” says Will Butler-Adams, Managing Director of Brompton Bicycle.
As well as attracting participants from around the UK, the Brompton World Championship has a strong international reputation and there will be a record 16 satellite events taking place all over the world this year. From Mexico to Japan, Germany to Australia, the winners from each National Championship will travel to the UK to compete for the title of World Champion at Goodwood.
