The female only cycling series, Cycletta is back with a bang for 2013.
Following on from her Olympic success in 2012, Victoria Pendleton (CBE) is urging women nationwide to get on their bikes at a Cycletta event this year.
In 2012, Cycletta, the female only cycling series were instrumental in motivating thousands of women across the UK to take to their bikes. Building on this success, they’re hosting events in regional locations across the UK in 2013, including visits to Scotland and Wales for the first time, as well as a new Surrey location. With the added incentive of raising vital funds for Official Charity Partner, Macmillan Cancer Support, it seems a perfect opportunity for women to get on their bikes in a safe, supportive environment.
Cycletta 2013 is open to women of all ages and abilities, offering various distances. The Classic covers 40km and the Challenge distance covers anywhere between 52 and 82km. For those of you who were inspired by the Olympics and are enjoying being back in the saddle, but not yet ready to take on the longer distances, the organisers, Human Race, have added a new shorter 20km distance at all venues.
It’s nice to see that Cycletta have also opened its doors to children. Human Race are encouraging girls, who are accompanied by an adult, aged between 12 and 16-years-old to take part. On top of this, at most events, younger boys and girls aged between 4 and 8-years-old can also be entered for a Scootathlon, taking place on the same day.
Cycletta ambassador, Victoria Pendleton (CBE) will be aiming to take part in as many of the events as she can, she said: “I’ve been involved with Cycletta since it launched with two events in 2011. I am so passionate about this series and it is fantastic to see Cycletta continue to grow in popularity, with events now taking place all over the country.”
“There are many reasons why women should get out on their bikes- whether it’s to commute to work, keep fit, socialise or to raise money for a good cause like Macmillan Cancer Support. Some cycling events can feel intimidating, particularly if you haven’t been on a bike for years and that’s exactly what Cycletta aims to change.”
Each Cycletta will take place on safe well-managed roads and you’re encouraged to bring the whole clan to cheer you on. At all of the venues, there will be unique touches that made the 2012 events so popular. Treat stops along the routes and the popular pamper zone, offering ladies free post-ride pampering will all be back.
