A private island in exotic surroundings, blazing sunshine, the sound of gently lapping waves in the background, an army of staff ready to service your every need. This is exactly what springs to mind when you think of what mega superstars such as Kim Kardashian and Kanye West aka Kimye would do for their honeymoon.
But it would appear we are way off the mark. They may be one of the world’s power couples but it seems the multi-millionaires have much simpler tastes and instead opted for a spot of mountain biking in Ireland to celebrate their recent union.
Manager of Ballyhoura Failte, Fergal Somers confirmed today that he had welcomed two high profile VIP guests to the world-class trails, located in the south of the country in Co Limerick.
Proving that they may be more down to earth than we think, the couple arrived at the trail centre at 8am yesterday morning. Wearing casual sports gear, they hired a total of six Cube bikes at €35 a pop.
“The dawn chorus was simply incredible,” said Somers who was the group’s guide for the day. “The weather was gorgeous, and we saw loads of wildlife – red squirrels, hen harriers, red deer, foxes…it was really fantastic,” he continued.
“We headed off at about 8am and gave the couple a tour of the brand new trails we have created for the European MTB Marathon Champs which we are hosting. We then did some skills, followed by a gentle cycle on the Ballinaboola side and a walk along the Ballyhoura Way and the Blackrock Loop. It was all very calm.”
After a morning of physical exertion, the couple were then treated to a slap up artisan picnic, the ingredients for which were all sourced locally. Treats in the basket included Ballyhoura Trekkers Trail Tart, Leave No Trace Lemon Desert and Ballyhoura Country Chocolate Brownies, washed down with some locally sourced apple juice. Somers confirmed that both tucked into the spread.
Kimye who were married in Florence last Sunday arrived in Cork on Sunday afternoon. They set up camp for the first few nights of their honeymoon in Castle Oliver in Ardpatrick, Co Limerick and have now ventured toward Kerry to continue their adventure.
It seems the couple are causing quite the stir in Ireland at the moment: “There were a load of journalists and paparazzi in the area. It was great fun, The whole place is talking about it!” laughed Somers.
