dhb Ladies Chevron Air Short Sleeve Jersey review

The dhb Ladies Chevron Air Short Sleeve jersey is an incredibly durable, well thought through piece of kit. With no fuss, it caters for everything you need from a jersey, and more importantly at an affordable price – a fantastic staple top to have in your cycling wardrobe.

The Chevron Air short sleeve jersey has made it into TWC editor’s top 5 jerseys, high praise indeed

Over the past couple of months this has been my go to jersey, replacing an old faithful that was completely threadbare. The dhb Chevron Air is an understated number, it doesn’t shout about its amazing features, it just quietly gets on with it.

To kick off, I was surprised at how much I liked the fabric, starting with the most noticeable material on the arms. The best way to describe it is to quote my Mother.

It feels like an old deflated soft balloon, but in a good way!

As we’re all aware, Mum’s know best and she’s right, the arms are silky soft and smooth over the arms nicely.

Both the material and the design create an elegant silhouette. The front panels are in a coloured Lycra, slightly thicker than that on the arms; either in red, purple or black as featured here. The side panels, although constructed from the same material as the front, comes in white, so it creates an illusion that helps slim the torso – we like!

Long, but not too long sleeves, zip pockets, breathable material – what’s not to love?

Back to the material; under the arms and down the centre of the back, breathable mesh fabric has been incorporated. As I was churning up some rather epic climbs, this fabric proved to work incredibly well – with it not only wicking sweat quickly, but also drying fast so I didn’t get cold on descents.

With four pockets on the rear of the jersey, I managed to carry enough sustenance for a 100-mile ride, no problem. Due to its depth, just one of the side pockets was capable of storing my Lezeyne pump securely. Even at this price point dhb managed to incorporate a zip pocket on the side of the right rear pocket to store valuables, which is a nice touch and kept my Samsung phone in place.

Four rear pockets; the middle with a flap to cover it and the right has the fourth zipped pocket

The middle rear pocket, rather than just having a straight opening, has a flap over the top. This proved handy when I needed to pack fair few gels in. The flap helped keep it all compressed and in place like a neat package. There’s also a hi-vis strip across the flap – another one of those added touches that are great to see.

A full-length cam-lock zipper is used to get you in and out of the jersey. Sometimes with jerseys at the lower end of the price spectrum, zips can be troublesome and on occasion stick. However, I’m pleased to report that as I climbed and descended I could grab the dhb branded tab and with no effort, adjust the smooth running zip.

In terms of fit, dhb work on UK sizes. I see myself as a UK size 10 and I had no nasty surprises with the size 10 test sent through. The length on the back was great, covering exactly what it needed to. Admittedly it’s not the longest, so tall women may want to avoid at 65cm (25.5+inches) from collar to hem.

VERDICT

Inconspicuous and understated with all the technical features you’d expect on a jersey twice the price, dhb with the Chevron Air jersey have proven once again you can have form and function without breaking the bank. The Chevron jersey is a solid addition to any cyclists’ wardrobe.

What Wiggle say about the dhb Ladies Chevron Air Short Sleeve Jersey

Chevron Air is aimed at the rider who has the highest aspirations in cycling. The slim, performance form fit jersey with discreet mesh breather panels allows for ventilation and comfort so that you can focus on getting the most out of your ride

The Chevron Air design parameters were simple – visual impact and ultimate performance. Fabric selections were key to achieving the finished result. A combination of moisture management, temperature control and an unparalleled feeling of speed.

A full length YKK lock down zip allows you to bare all when you need to crank up the power or zip right up and keep the heat in when flying downhill. The comfortable, seamless collar introduces a speed suit aesthetic. An elasticated hem with silicone grip keeps the jersey firmly in place. At the rear are 2 vertical open drop pockets with a central flapped pocket for any bulky valuables.

An additional side zip pocket is included for coins or small items to prevent any loss when hurtling along at maximum output.
