Smells so good but how does it clean?

Your bike is your freedom machine. It’s your companion through the good days and the bad and for many of us, it’s a lifeline, so it’s important to take care of it. Of course, you can tinker away with bike maintenance when it suffers a mechanical malady, but to help prevent sudden malfunctions, it’s best to keep your steed clean and primed for every ride and one way to do this is by effective cleaning, after all, don’t you love a shower after a ride?

Like your skin, you can’t just wash in any old thing, you have to be careful of chemicals and that goes for your bike too. A bicycle has many moving parts, lubricated components, anodized bling, carbon, aluminium, steel and blingy paint jobs so not only should you be aware of what you’re washing your bike with, but also the hazardous effects it can have on our environment – or so we think here at TWC.

Juice Lubes are a major player in the realm of bike maintenance and offer a comprehensive collection of products to see that your bike is clean, well-oiled and ready to go. We’ve gotten our hands on their kit and followed their step-by-step instructions on how to clean our muddy MTB.

Juice Lubes Bike Cleaning Collection

The dirty test bike

Starting off with a dirty bike, we followed the instructions which begin with wetting down the bike and giving it a good spray with the pre-mixed bike cleaner. However, there is also a concentrated product option that allows you to mix your own solution which we think is better value for money.

Wetted and sprayed with Juice Lubes’ bike cleaner

We left the bike cleaner on for a few minutes before agitating the stubborn areas with a soft brush. Whilst that settles, we worked on the drivetrain by using the degreaser to really clean the gunk and muck from the cassette and chain – don’t forget those disc brakes either!

After which, we rinsed off the bike with water and gave the bike a good bounce to shed off excess moisture.

Next up – applying Juice Lubes’ JL69 to the moving parts of the bike to help displace remaining water.

Give the bike a good wipe down at this point and then apply the Frame Protector, but be sure to cover and avoid contaminating your brake pads and rotors. At this point, you can also use the suspension juice on your forks, shock and dropper.

To finish it off, apply a drop of oil to each link of the chain and spin the cranks to run it through thoroughly, then wipe off any excess.

Et voila! Your bike is shiny and clean. At this point and throughout the cleaning, it’s a good habit to check over your bolts and set-up to ensure everything is still tightened up to its correct torque and that there is no apparent wear or damage that you may not remember causing because it does happen!

Our dirty bike is all clean!

And now, there’s just the small matter of cleaning yourself! Juice Lubes have their own version of Swarfega to clean your hands of muck and oil after the big clean. Brightly coloured, it works a treat.

If you use all products as specified, then you’ll have a spanking clean steed which smells amazing because quite frankly, Juice Lubes smell so good that you have to remind yourself not to taste it!
