The Boels-Dolmans cycling team really pulled out all the stops with strategically choreographed racing that sent Lizzie Deignan over the finish line at the infamous Tour de Yorkshire.
Throughout the 122.5km route, many breaks and attacks were attempted until careful cycling tactics came into play from the women of Boels-Dolmans as Lizzie said: “The plan was to get someone in the breakaway – we had Amy Pieters there – and for me and Anna to bridge on the main climb.”
“I went on instinct, I saw a moment where it was good to go and didn’t look back” – Lizzie Deignan
With the help of her teammates, Lizzie quickened the pace to gain a 60 second lead over the chasing group. With 1km to go, the British athlete enjoyed the roar of the crowds as she sailed over the finish line to victory.
