Just weeks after opening registration for their Yorkshire Up North sportive, Fat Lad at the Back has reported a 100% increase on entrants from last year. More than 400 people have signed up, compared to 200 riders at the same point last year. What’s more impressive is that this amateur sportive event has seen 80% of those registered new to the FLAB Sportive.
After massive success with their men’s range of plus size performance clothing, Fat Lad at the Back launched their women’s line in 2014: Fat Lass at the Back which has received a warm welcome from the women’s market. Due to overwhelming demand, founders Lynn and Richard decided to launch a series of FLAB sportives.
The sportive is designed for anyone who wants to ride, regardless of shape, size or ability. So motivated are Lynn and Richard to inspire a new wave of cyclists to get onto the saddle they’ve invested in a team of Flambassadors – FLAB advocates – to support cyclists on their way and ensure no one rides alone.

The Up North sportive routes take in some of Yorkshire’s most stunning countryside from Greenhow Hill, Malham Cove and the breathtaking isolated valley of Littondale. The event is also renowned for its legendary food stops, all in jaw-dropping locations. This year a post-event Hog Roast will ensure that riders leave full and wearing a smile.
FLAB’s Up North sportive takes place on Sunday May 7th setting out from Ilkley Rugby Club. Riders will be able to choose from three distances: 25 miles, 50 miles and 75 miles.
Registration for Up North is open until 3rd May (subject to selling out beforehand). Riders are encouraged to reserve their place before it’s too late. For more information, and to register, visit the FLAB Sportive website here.
