Video: High Winds Cause Cycling Chaos in Cape Town

We've never seen anything like it...

The Cape Town Cycle Tour got off to a blowy start at the weekend as winds rapidly picked up to over 100kph, literally blowing cyclists off their bikes and forcing organisers to cancel the event.

What was supposed to be a 109km road race, with approximately 35,000 people taking part, turned into complete chaos. The event was cancelled at the 21km mark after organisers deemed the conditions too dangerous.

Social media footage quickly emerged which showed just how strong the winds were. Cyclists were holding onto their bikes, like kites in the wind, and at one point, a portable toilet slid its way down the road – yikes!
