Clothing maker Rapha has long made well-regarded women’s clothing. The range has just been expanded with the addition of a new jersey and bib shorts specifically designed and tailored for women.
If you’ve read Kirsty Medlock’s article of a few weeks ago, you’ll know that we’re fans here of bib shorts, so it’s great to see another women-specific option. The Rapha Women’s Classic Bib Shorts are available in any-colour-you-like-as-long-as-it’s-black, though there is a Team Sky edition, which is interesting as Sky doesn’t have a women’s team. Maybe Rapha knows something we don’t? At £150 they’re quite a long way from cheap, but the price is comparable to other high-end bib shorts from the likes of Castelli, Assos and Gore Bike Wear.
Rapha’s other new piece for women is the Souplesse Jersey. Rapha says it’s “designed for female-specific fit from the ground up” though if we were designing a jersey we’d probably start at the waist. “Extremely breathable, it is ideal for high-volume training and sportive riding,” says Rapha. The Souplesse Jersey costs £125. Rapha has also introduced new colours for several women’s garments, including the Wind Jacket in purple and red and the Lightweight Jersey in purple, cream, and grey with high-vis pink. There are also new colours for the T-shirt, a Short Sleeve Merino Base Layer cut specifically for women, and a new Silk Scarf. More information from Rapha.
