With the excitement from the OVO Energy Women’s tour already quieting down, we turn our sights to further thrilling road cycling events coming up. The HSBC UK | National Championships are taking place June 22nd – 25th in the infamous location of the Isle of Man.
To recap on last year’s event, the women’s road race came down to a nail-biting sprint finish in a battle between the Barne’s sisters, Hannah and Alice. Canyon//SRAM rider, Hannah crossed the line first taking the overall win, with Alice closely behind her, taking 2nd place overall and the Under-23 title.
Hayley Simmonds defended her time-trial title after blitzing the 2016 course in 47:33.357.
So what does the Isle of Man have in store for riders this year?
Entries are still open for the time-trial and road races which are taking place on Thursday, June 22nd and Sunday, June 25th, respectively. Which famous names we’ll see at the start line is still somewhat of a mystery, but you can join in on the action too by signing up here.
The under-23 men’s and women’s time trial events will get the action underway on Thursday 22nd, with both competitions taking place on identical routes and covering the same distance both starting and finishing at Tynwald Hill.
Three days after the time trial events, the road races begin. The women’s race will set off from the start line at the TT Grandstand in Douglas. From there, riders complete a lap of the 37.7-mile-long Isle of Man TT Snaefell Mountain Course followed by six laps of a 4.5-mile clockwise finishing circuit, making a total course length of 64.45 miles.
Thinking of taking part? You can get all your road race needs from Leisure Lakes Bikes who’re gearing up to provide support for the prestigious race.
With just over a week to go, we’re already getting ready for a weekend of cheering on some of the UK’s best. Check out the route maps below to see where the races will be taking place.
