Trek Madone is the Most Popular Bike at Wiggle Dragon Ride 2014

Attracting over 4,000 participants, the Wiggle Dragon Ride provided interesting insight into popular bike brands and models

Giant was among the top four most popular bike brands at the Wiggle Dragon Ride

A recent survey carried out at the Wiggle Dragon Ride unveiled the Trek Madone as the most popular model of bike and Specialized as the most popular bike brand.

The study was carried out by Sports Marketing Surveys Inc and provided valuable insight into the equipment and apparel preferences of an important cross section of riders in the UK.

In total, 56 different bike brands were used at the event which attracted more than 4,000 participants. 40.7% of the field rode a bike from one of four brands, the most popular of which were Trek and Specialized, followed by Giant and Scott.

Even more interesting though was the fact that on average there was a 15% decrease in the amount riders spent on their bikes. In 2013 the average spend was £2,000, this dropped to £1,700 in 2014.

The Wiggle Dragon Ride weaves through South Wales and over the Brecon Beacons. Entrants can choose to compete in one of four challenging distances ranging from 45km to 300km. Entries for the 2015 event open at 9am on 29 September. Entries usually sell out at break neck speed so be sure to get in there early if you fancy taking on what has now become one of the UK’s most iconic rides.
