A rarity on these isles, a closed-road Gran Fondo is surely worthy of an Attenborough voiceover. Thankfully the Tour of Cambridgeshire is here to satisfy our desire for a traffic-free, mass participation bicycle race. Hurrah!
The 132km race will take place on 7 June 2015 as part of a weekend of fume-free events.
First place wins £1500 in each race – and, excitingly, the prize money is equal for women and men. Good stuff.
On 6 June there will be a 28km Time Trail, UCI World Cycling Tour event. It’s now closed to entries, but the race will undoubtably be quite a spectacle for those on the road side.
It costs £56 to enter the Gran Fondo and race with 10,000 other keen cyclists. Sounds like a bargain to us. For more information, head over to the Tour of Cambridgeshire website.
