New Women’s Discount Card Makes a Point of Gender Pay Gap

This clever idea really drives home how ridiculous it is that women earn less for doing the same job

The gender pay gap means that women still earn less than men for doing exactly the same job but two advertising executives have come up with a clever way to redress the balance.

The ‘women’s discount card’ is an idea from Sali Horsey and Zoe Nash – it offers women savings on basic amenities such as food, entertainment and public transport. Just like a student card.

With women earning around 14 per cent less than men on average, which means we’re basically working for free from November 9 every year, this seems like a fair deal.

Admittedly, the card isn’t currently accepted by any retailers – but it does make its point rather well – women working the same jobs as men quite obviously deserve to be earning the same amount.

The brains behind the card have added some great poster images to go with their campaign, just to hammer the point home a little harder.

Of course, in pro cycling the gap is a whole lot bigger than 14 per cent, for example Tour of Flanders winner Elisa Longo Borghini got just £871 whilst the male winner Alexander Kristoff pocketed £14,365.

You can show your support for equal pay by checking out the site and ordering a women’s discount card here.
