Money for cycling: Donate £1 to make £50 worth of difference with Sustrans

Did you know that for every pound donated to Sustrans, £50 goes into improving conditions for cyclists in the UK?

As a cyclist you will have definitely benefited from the hard work done by Sustrans – the charity that focuses on getting people walking and cycling in the UK. The now-ubiquitous National Cycle Network was started by them in 1995, providing quiet routes across Britain perfect for long (and short!) distance rides.

The other part of Sustrans remit is campaigning for better conditions for cyclists and convincing the government that it’s a great investment for the UK. They also regularly work with organisations like Transport For London to implement safe cycle routes where there are dangerous junctions. You can see just how effective they are by looking at this map of their successes.

You may know that the government has money set aside for cycling, but did you realise a lot of it is conditional on public interest? That’s why, for every £1 donated to Sustrans, £50 of further funding is made available. So only £20 could put one child through the Sustrans schools programme, giving them the skills and confidence to get out on their bikes.

You can make a donation, or sponsor a mile of the National Cycle Network, today.
