4 Golds for Great Britain at Track World Cup in London

Laura Trott, Katie Archibald, Elinor Barker and Ciara Horne win gold in team pursuit – Trott also wins ominium and Barker gets bronze in points race

Laura Trott celebrates her women’s omnium victory

The second round of the UCI Track World Cup in Lea Valley VeloPark has yielded an impressive four gold medals for the British team, with two of those from women’s events.

Laura TrottKatie Archibald, Elinor Barker and Ciara Horne gained gold in the women’s team pursuit on Friday night, while Trott also struck gold with her solo performance in the women’s omnium. Elinor Barker further added to the Great Britain tally, winning bronze in the women’s points race.

Perhaps the most nail-biting victory was that of the women’s team pursuit on Friday night where the British effort almost fell apart. Laura Trott pulled away from the rest of the team, demanding that Archibald, Barker and Horne catch up. Thankfully the team banded together and were able to retain their winning position after building up a strong lead against the Australians.

There were also golds in the men’s team pursuit (Andy Tennant, Steven Burke, Mark Christian and Owain Doull) and men’s madison races (Owain Doull and Mark Christian).

After a strong start in round one of the competition in Mexico, with two golds and two silvers, Britain remain in a good position going into the final round of the Track World Cup. The last round will take place in Cali, Columbia on January 17th and 18th.
